This was a smart moth from last nightand another first for me here  , also on the garage wall were 6 Swallow -tailed Moths.

House Sparrows

An excellent year for House Sparrows with a flock of 25 (mainly juvs ) on a bird table behind our house and up to 15 in and around Hedge top lane.

Four  new moths for Northowram recently with  Beautiful Hook Tip , Clay triple lines , Common Emerald and Pine Carpet , nice to have a bit of time at home. Also very good news from the Mull moth recorder confirming that the Catoptria furcatellus was the first confirmed record for Mull....One old record is mentioned but with no details................

Watched an Adult White tailed Sea Eagle at the nest site ripping a fish up and then taking it to feed young..... and Hen Harriers nesting by the roadside.......different world with a whole industry dedicated to watching Eagles , otters and wildlife....................Satyr Pug  and  Dotted Buff .

Duddon, Cumbria

Found this Oystercatcher nesting on the railway track ,3 eggs( last year it was in the same place 27th May 2016 and only 2 eggs) and this young carrion crow was ripped up by an adult male Peregrine..Loads of Little Egrets and breeding Goosander.

House Sparrows

Its been a very good year for House Sparrows on hedge top lane this year with at least 8/10 pairs well on with there second broods, Looks like a couple of pairs of Swifts are in the village somewhere and one pair of House Martins were noted today. Great spotted Woodpecker  , Starlings , Goldfinch and Greenfinch have all got young and I watched a pair of Linnets collecting seed heads ...LBBGulls have been on the move all week and saw my first 5 BHGulls heading north this morning.

Islay 2

3 different Golden Eagles seen very well 2 adults and a 2cy , 1 adult White tailed Eagle , 1 adult male Velvet Scoter , 1 Ring necked Duck , 2 summer Red - throated Diver , Male and female Hen Harrier , 1 Barnacle Goose , 30 Barwit , 11 Knot , 100 + Marsh Fritillary , and a few Adder

Crags and Northowram

Sparrowhawk , Buzzard and Kestrel all seen close to the house over the weekend along with plenty of Swifts. Greenfinch and Linnets have been seen feeding on Dandelions early morning on the cricket pitch along with House Sparrow ,  Blackbird and Starlings eaten worms ,
   Wood Warbler singing , 2 Spot Fly and  Cuckoo calling in the crags today.

Hodbarrow

Quick look at Hodbarrow today , 45 pairs of Little Tern , 400 + Sandwich Terns , 70 Common Tern , 1 Pintail , 20 Red breasted Merganser , 1 Rock Pipit , 2 Shovler , 40 Eiders , 2 Dunlins , Oycks and Ringed Plover with chicks ..2 Manx Shearwater and  Gannet  at sea and Lesser Whitethroat , Whitethroat , Willow Warbler , Sedge Warbler , Blackcap , Garden Warbler and  Chiffchaff in the scrub areas....2 Osprey at Foulshaw Moss ,4  Duke of Burgandy and 1 Pearl bordered Fritillary at Whitherslack..

Loch Lee Angus

2 adults and a 2cy  Golden Eagles were seen about 15 times during our short stay also , 2 Ospreys , Red Kite , Merlin , Ptarmigan on Mt Keen  , Adder ,Weasel ,  Mountain Hares  Spot Fly , Tree Pipits , Ring Ouzel (20 +) Twite , Whooper Swan , Pink footed Goose , and breeding Widgeon , Dunlin , Teal , Dipper , Grey Wag , Redpoll , Siskin  etc..............A herd of 187 Red Deer was impressive but destructive...

Islay..Bonney Scotland

A week on Islay poduced male Hen Harrier every day , great views of this beautiful bird. Choughs , Cuckoos (20+) , Whinchats (20 +) , Whimbrels , Black Guillimot (30 +) Osprey , GNDiver (30 + )Golden and White Tailed Eagle ,Pale bellied Brent Geese and a calling Corncrake and the odd Otter. A flock of  28 Hooded Crow was a first.............

Well I had one day to go and I went for it with Nick D (cheers for getting us there and back)  , It was fantastic Sky dancing , calling , carrying nesting material , stooping and generally being fantastic for long periods , 2 Ring Ouzel , Cuckoo , Buzzards etc ..

If you get chance go , it will be the best bird you see this decade........
